Imphal, April 06 2010:
The 7th DGAR Cup which began at Imphal Polo Ground from 25 March as "State Equestrian Championship" has concluded here today.
The championship was held under the aegis of IGAR(South) and organized by Manipur Equestrian Association.
Major General C A Krishnan, IGAR (South) graced the closing ceremony as Chief Guest.
Major General CA Krishnan and Mrs Sandhya Krishnan were accorded a warm welcome by the association by way of presentation of rosettes and traditional Manipuri mementoes.
S Budhachandra Singh, IAS(Retd), President MHRPA and Brigadier Harish Thukral, Commander 10 Sector Assam Rifles and a host of Civil and Military dignitaries including the Civilians also graced the occasion.
Boys and girls of many esteemed clubs participated in the events.
The cynosure of all eyes was a nine-year old, Master L Aakash S/o Romeo (a polo player) who won accolades from the public for a daring show and a confident performance.
In his speech, Major General C A Krishnan praised the organizing committee's efforts for the smooth conduct of the championships.
He also exhorted the citizens of Manipur to come forward in promotion of sports for a bright future for the development of sports in the state.
Show jumping and Tent-pegging-Lance (Team) formed the main event of the ceremony.
The whole ceremony was full of pomp and splendour.
The traditional Thang-Ta show and Sagol-Kangjei won a standing ovation from the crowds at the end of the ceremony.
IRC won junior team champion's title while MPSC won senior team champion's title.
L Akash of IRC and Kokeshwar of Khurai Polo Club were declared youngest riders and were awarded cash award.
