Imphal, April 06 2010:
Giving a jolt to the efforts of the State Government to commence the maiden session of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) from August this year, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has pointed out that electronic teaching equipment are still lacking in the newly established institution.
The MCI has also asked the Government to build a gymnasium for students staying in the hostel.
The MCI reportedly made these remarks after a team of its officials visited Imphal from March 25 to 27 and conducted a direct assessment of the infrastructure available at the institution.
Taking due note of the MCI's observation, the State authority has initiated necessary procedures to procure the equipment lacking in JNIMS, informed a source.
It is reported that the MCI would consider granting approval for commencing the academic session in JNIMS only after the State Government furnishes a report about installation of all the required infrastructure.
Notably, the State Government's plan to commence academic session of JNIMS from last year was aborted due to many shortages.
The medical institute will have 100 seats when it begins its maiden session.
