In support of the country-wide mass court arrest announced by the Left parties on April 8 to protest escalating prices of essential commodities, the respective State units have also geared up for the showdown here on the same day.
Addressing a joint press conference at Irabot Bhavan here today, secretary of CPI, Manipur State unit Langol Iboyaima said that in response to the call of four Left parties, namely CPI, CPI (M), Forward Bloc and RSP, lakhs of people have taken out a protest march against escalating price of essential commodities on March 8 at the National capital New Delhi.
As a follow up action, lakhs of people would court arrest themselves in different parts of the country on April 8.Accordingly, the State Councils of the four Left parties have also made necessary preparations for launching mass court arrest in five districts of the State on the same day, Iboyaima disclosed and appealed all the people for extending their full co-operation in this regard.
In Manipur, the court arrest would be staged half-past noon at the district headquarters, he added.
Ex-Ministers Dr M Nara and N Tomba, who were during the press conference, also spoke decrying price rise and denial of PDS items to the people.
