Movement for Tribal People's Rights Manipur (MTPRM) on Tuesday appealed the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of 2006 Autonomous District Councils (ADC) Teachers Appointees to call-off their proposed 72 hours general strike in Manipur hill districts starting from the mid-night of April 6 in the interest of general public.
Poujeng Kamei, president of MTPRM and its general secreatary Thangkam Lupheng appealed the convenor and leaders of the JAC to show leadership maturity by acknowledging the technical difficulties and other problems being faced by the state government in the process of declaring the DPC teachers' result.
While urging the Manipur government to declare the DPC result of teachers under the 6 ADCs in the state before the commencement of the ADC elections code-of-conduct, the tribal rights body appreciated the Manipur government for rendering yeomen service for the upliftment of the hill people which the tribal rights body claimed that no other government has ever done in the past.
It further stated that the Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government of Manipur has also undertaken various programmes in the education sector particularly appointment of teachers under ADCs to meet the shortage of teachers in the hill districts.
