Imphal, April 06 2010:
Along with observing the 13th Youth Day at Thoubal Athokpam today in remembrance of the sacrifice made by prince Senggoisana, MPP party president Dr Nimaichand Luwang has said that if MPP come to power, Youth Day observance every year on April 6 would be made into a State function.
Senggoisana was the son of Yaiskullakpa and inspite of his tender age he went along with father to fight against the British for safeguarding the independence of Manipur in the Anglo-Manipur war of 1981.After fighting valiantly, Senggoisana laid down his life in the battle of Thoubal Athokpam.
In remembrance of his supreme sacrifice , MPP has been observed Youth Day every year on April 6
since 1988 .
At the observance, Dr Nimaichand led the public in offering Tarpan to Senggoisana in Arong river.
Office bearers of the party and other leaders of Chanura Marup were also present at the observance.
Talking to mediapersons after the observance, Dr Nimaichand said that MPP has been observing Youth Day since 1988 in remembrance of the supreme sacrifice made by Senggoisana, who was then just 15 years old.
Apart from MPP, there has been no other political parties or organisations which deem it fit to remember April 6 as one of the most important date in the history of Manipur, Dr Nimaichand said, adding that it was while MPP was in power that August 13 and Khongjom Day were declared State holidays to facilitate observance.
He further said that if MPP come to power again, then the death anniversary of young hero like Senggoisana would be observed as a State function.
