Police commandos of Thoubal and Imphal West have apprehended women activists of two armed outfits from different places in the past 48 hours.
Among the two, one is informed to be a female activist of the PLA whom a team of Thoubal police commandos arrested from Nongpok Sekmai bazar area where a search operation was launched from about 5.04 am today.
The other reportedly belongs to the PULF (Umar Faruk) group, whom Imphal West district police commandos picked up from near Pintu Hotel gate, North AOC.
Informing that the operation was launched based on reliable information about presence of women cadres of the PLA outfit, a statement issued by Additional SP (Thoubal) Jogeshchandra Haobijam identified the female captive as Thangjam (O) Loli Devi (42) w/o Th Chandrashyam Singh of Nongpok Sekmai Shikhong Bazar.
Conveying Loli to have disclosed that she is a sympathiser of PLA and working in Finance section of the outfit under one Nongleiba of Khurai Kongpal, the ASP said Nongleiba had been killed by security forces recently.
Loli also reportedly named one Meiraba who collected an AK series rifle and a pistol from her sometimes back, according to the statement that charged the woman of passing information about movement of security forces as well as giving shelter and logistic support to the PLA, etc.
On the otherhand, a statement of SSP (IW) L Kailun said the PULF (Umar Faruk) group's female activist was rounded over at about 3 pm yesterday.
Identifying the arrested woman as Makakmayum Rahena Begum (27) d/o M Audulhak of Yairipok Changamdabi Mathak Leikai, the SSP said Rahena joined the PULF group in 2002 through one Soni alias Sadhana alias Samina (35) of Porayangbi Moirang (Finance Section) and worked under the latter's command.
"One icell handset along with two sim cards, one money bag containing Rs 50 and one fake currency note of Rs 1000, and one hand baggage having some cloths were seized from her possession," the SSP maintained.
Meanwhile, troops of 5 Assam Rifles pulled up two sympathisers of United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) from Phaitol village of Tousem sub-division in Tamenglong district today.
Report filed by TSE's Jiribam Correspondent Jacob Panmei identified the arrested duo as Tongjalen Singson (65) and Thangkosem Singson (32), who have been subsequently handed over to Jiribam police station.
Contrary to the AR claim, family members contended that both are innocent villagers having no link with any UG group, Jacob added.
