Surajkumar, secretary ESHOR, an NGO working for HIV/AIDS, opposed the planning of transferring the funds for the people living with HIV/ AIDS (PLWHA) in the North East (NE) region to the Government of India by the Clinton Foundation, a foreign donor for the affected people to the NE region.
He stated this while attending a function of the nutrition food to the children living with AIDS held Wednesday at Imphal.
The Clinton Foundation which has reportedly been funding to PLWHA in the NE region.
However, the foundation is reportedly planning to transfer the fund to the Government of India stating that the region is sustainable.
Speaking in the function, Surajkumar stated that atleast 13 NGOs are working for the welfare of the HIV/AIDS affected patients.
The Clinton Foundation has been funding to Society for Advancement of Social Organization (SASO).
However Clinton Foundation is likely to transfer the funds to the Indian Government on the ground that the North East is sustainable.
The people in the hill districts cannot even afford nutritious food and the people living under HIV/AIDS cannot get the Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) medicine properly due to acute poverty in the hilly region of the State.
He also added that transferring of the funds by the Clinton Foundation to the Government might involve misutilisation of fund where in the needy persons of the society would not get the benefit as a whole, he said.
