Like other part of the country, the World Tuberculosis (TB) Day was observed in the district too, organised by the District Control Society under the theme "Innovation" at ShekinuhInn Tamenglong district HQs today.
Joseph Pauline, MCS, ADM Tamenglong, Fr Linus Sdb Headmaster of Don Bosco School Tml and Dr Namjupou Panmei, DIO (FW) Tml attended the funciton as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Administration of DOT (medicines) to the TB patient, Daigong and two TB cured persons giving testimonies on how they were cured from the disease marked the occasion.
"After testing and confirmed of tuberculosis disease I was given free treatment including free medicines by District TB Control Society Tml for six months.
My health improved, I no longer used stick in walking .
After curing, I was given incentive of Rs 250 by Dr Chambo Gonmei DTO and Chief Medical Officer Tml, said Kalaona, 67 years old while thanking the initiative taken by the authority.
Another woman who also gave her testimony said that she was cured from dreaded disease with the help from TB control society Tml.
Now her health is okay.
They said that even if they could not turn up to the DOT centre the nurses came to their house and accompany them to the centre to take DOTs.
Speaking as chief guest, Joseph Pauline said that such programme should be made at bigger gathering where people can learn about the dreadful disease, its preventive measures as it would provide a place for awareness on facilities available in the District TB control Society in the district.
"Individual health is very important, like develop countries we should pay attention to our health, treating at hospital or at home.
We should strike to live a health lives and know what are good and for our health", he said.
TB is killer of disease once upon a time, but now with development of science and technology TB is now curable.
Remote villagers lost their lives due to ignorance of the diseases and late treatment, it is everyone duty to fight against the TB and free from our society, said Fr.Linus Sdb, Headmaster of Don Bosco school Tamenglong.
Tamenglong district is among the TB prone districts of Manipur, this may be due to chewing of baby's rice before feeding by their mother or grandmother, observed Dr Namjupou Panmei, DIO (FW) while delivering presidential speech during World TB day observation.
Another root causes may be poor economy and social context.
TB programme was once failed in hill district of Manipur due to shortage of fund and remoteness.
But the government has changed the programme as Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme.
Under this programme the sputum is collected and free treatment is given to the TB patients, started Dr.Namjupou.
