Nearly, 28,077 patients of Tuberculosis (TB) have been recovered since 1998 till date, informed K.Radhakumar Singh, deputy commissioner, Imphal West district while observing the 28th World TB Day at Lamphel, Imphal.
The 28th World TB Day was organized at Lamphel under the slogan 'on the move against Tuberculosis to accelerate action' organized by Imphal West district, TB control society.
K Radhakumar while informing that out of the total 28,077 recovered patients, about 2,061 patients are still taking Directly Observed Treatment Short (DOTS)-Course Chemotherapy , he stated that 25910 TB patients were being saved by DOTS.
Maintaining the significance of DOTS, he also stated that DOTS is the only treatment that can save the people from TB.
He also added that TB being a communicable disease, it can infect two persons within three seconds.
Spreading of such disease can therefore be stopped through DOTS, added K.Radhakumar.
The deaths rates due to tuberculosis have been decreased with the introduction of DOTS in the state.
In the year 2003, no of deaths was recorded 250, in 2004, 207 deaths were recorded, 2005163 deaths, 2006-122 deaths and 151 deaths were recorded in the 2008, informed K.Radhakumar Singh.
