Imphal, March 24 2010:
Agitating legal practitioners have been assured by the law minister Th Debendra Singh to convey their grievances to the Chief Minister for initiating appropriate action against those IRB personnel involved in the assault of two advocates on March 13 evening.
Members of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Manipur had been demanding that State authorities pull up and punish the robust IRB personnel.
The IRB personnel deployed on duty at the main gate of the Manipur University allegedly bashed up Ngangom Jotindra and Samerjit Hawaibam on March 13 .
The two are currently practicing in the Gauhati High Court and Samarjit is a junior government advocate under Manipur home department.
"Yesterday a team of our association insisted upon law minister Th Debendra to take appropriate action against the guilty IRB jawans," informed HCBA vice president, H Ishwarlal Singh.
"The minister assured us that he would meet the chief minister and exert pressure to do the needful within the next two to three days," Ishwarlal said.
Stating that consequent to the assurance, the association will exercise restraint on whether the government makes the move, the HCBA functionary asserted that in case State authorities fail to translate the assurance into action, the association will move the court against the IRB jawans.
Commenting on the "accidental" shooting and injuring of advocate general, N Koteshwar by works minister K Ranjit Singh, the advocate said the joint monitoring committee formed by the HCBA and the All Manipur Bar Association is ready to file a case against the incident.
"The monitoring committee is busy collecting all supporting materials like the FIR copy and other documental evidences to file the case before the appropriate court to get appropriate justice," he said.
