President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and MLA, Gaikhangam today cautioned the residents of Moreh town not to sell even a piece of land of the town areas to rich outsiders, or else the residents may one day come to live beyond the town.
Gaikhangam said this while addressing the inaugural function of the 125th Foundation Day Celebration of Indian National Congress (INC) held at the MELC conference hall at Moreh Ward No.2 at 9.30 am today.
Gaikhangam, as the chief guest, launched the series of celebration programmes, and also opened the office of Moreh Block Unit Congress Committee.
Former Minister DK Korungthang was the functional president, general secretary (Administration, in-charge of Chandel), Bidyapati Senjam and DCC Mephul were the guests of honour at the function.
Chief guest of the function, Gaikhangam, while addressing the gathering, stated that such a meeting of the Congress has never been held at Moreh before.
Today's was the first such programme being held at Moreh.
He said, it is time people of all communities living in Moreh got awakened and led a peaceful co-existence with mutual love and understanding.
In due course of time, Moreh will become a developed town, Gaikhangam said adding that if the people of Moreh were not wise enough at that time, they might face a lot of difficulties.
Because, the rich businessmen would buy land in Moreh areas, and the day may come when the local people would have to live outside the town.
Therefore, the residents of the town should never sell their own land to the rich outsider businessmen, he appealed.
Saying that the Congress party is a secular and neutral party which does not keep any difference between the rich and the poor, the MPCC president pointed out that celebrating the 125th foundation day of INC itself shows that it is the most stable and popular party.
It is a party which is like the ocean that never gets dried up.
He also expressed is desire for setting up Mahila Congress and Youth Congress at Moreh.
He appealed to those aspiring to get party ticket to contest the District Council Election, whether they get or not, to unitedly work for the party and take the leading role in trying to bring development in Moreh town.
Former Minister DK Korungthang said, Congress is a secular party which is not based on religion.
He pointed out the differences between the congress government and the BJP government in the country.
