Imphal, March 24 2010:
Altogether ten teenagers who were going outside the State in an inter-state bus was intercepted by Sekmai police and held them back .
After preliminary questioning, the teenagers have been handed over to Social Welfare Department.
The teenagers aged 18 and above were travelling in the same.
But their motive behind travelling together cannot be ascertained as yet.
After preliminary questioning by Sekmai police, the teenagers have been taken over by members and officials Childline, Child Welfare Committee and Social Welfare Department.
Quoting police report, one Social Welfare official said that the 10 teenagersthree girls and seven boys, might be from Singhat of Churachandpur district.
As one elder brother of one of the teenaged boy is working at a hotel in a South Indian State, it is suspected that the youngsters might have been called to the South Indian State with the assurance of providing job.
However, the exact reasons could not be established as it is difficult to communicate with the youngsters.
Child Welfare Committee Churachandpur has been informed about the interception and some of its officials would be arriving at Imphal tomorrow.
It is expected that communication in the local dialect of the youngsters would reveal their motive of travelling outside the State together.
This is the first case a group of kids/youngsters have been intercepted after the Social Welfare Department has issued an order asking all concerned to immediately inform Childline and the Child Welfare Committees if groups of children are found moving together in a suspicious manner and police detected them.
