Orissa blanked Delhi while Tamil Nadu defeated Maharastra in the quarterfinal league matches of the ongoing 13th senior women's national football championship at Mapal Kangjeibung here today.
Match between Orissa and Delhi was a lopsided affair.
Orissa�eves broke through the stubborn Delhi defence to score the opening goal Pinki Bompal Magar squeezed past Gitanjali Khuntia in the 8th minute.
The second Orissa goal resulted from a flag kick by Laxmipriya Sahoo in 28th minute.
The ball was netted after Delhi goalie Richa Bist failed to collect (the ball was slipped for her hand).
Orissa consolidated their its position� six minutes later� as Dibya Pravanti Ekka's pass� was relayed into goal by Laxmipriya Sahoo again.
Thus the first half ended with Orissa leading by 3-0.The fourth goal for Orissa came in 49th minute when Sradhanjali Samantaray converted a pass from Laxmipriya Sahoo into goal.
A flag kick pass from Laxmipriya Sahoo landed at Gitanjali Khuntia and she easily netted it as fifth goal in 51st minute.
Three minutes later, Pinki Bompal Magar netted the last goal.
The goal was passed by Gitanjali Khuntia from right flank.
Delhi which was qualified for the quarterfinal round as second best team from the preliminary league round was in a disappointing position till the end of the match, as they could not decide whether they should defend the Orissa attacks or penetrate their rivals� territory for a reducer.
Orissa's Gayatri Mallick was cautioned (book yellow card) in 32nd minute.
West Bengal held to Orissa to a draw through a same-side goal in their first quarterfinal match.
In the other match, Tamil Nadu defeated Maharastra by a solitary goal.
The lone goal was scored in 70th minute when M Radha netted the ball deflected from Maharastra goalie Micky Fernandes.
The ball was initially crossed from left flank by J Shalini.
The match was very crucial for Maharastra as they have been earlier defeated by Kerala 4-0.With today's defeat Maharastra's hope for entering semi-final was fizzled out.
