Imphal, March 01 (NNN):
A series of economic blockade along National Highways-39 and 53 have been lined up in the month of March.
Reports received from various tribal student bodies hinted that things would become clear by March 5 as to when the economic blockades would be imposed along the two National Highways in Manipur to protest the governments negligence towards the hill areas of the State.
The All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM) had earlier called a five day economic blockade on the highways supposed to start from Feb 16 last but had postponed it due to some reason.
The Kuki Students Organisation (KSO) and the Poumai Students Union had also postponed their decisions to impose economic blockades called separately in the month of February.
Information received from these hill based student bodies said that by March 5 dates would be fixed with regard to their earlier stand of imposing economic blockades.
The ATSUM has been accusing the Manipur government for not implementing various MoUs signed between the state government and the ATSUM.
The student body's main demand has been to have a separate Directorate (Education) for the hill districts of Manipur and to fill up all the vacant posts of teaching staff in the government schools in the hill areas of Manipur.
