Imphal, March 01: Intensifying their ongoing agitation for introducing Meetei Mayek text books in schools and colleges from the current academic session, volunteers of Meetei Eyek Erol Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) staged demonstration and set on fire text books written in Bengali script at the gate of Imphal East DC office today.

The slogan shouting Meetei Mayek activists piled up the Manipuri text books written in Bengali script and made a bonfire of the text books by pouring kerosene at around 4.30 pm.

They shouted anti-Government slogans and demanded replacement of Bengali script text books with the original Manipuri script.

The agitating Mayek activists also dared the police personnel who arrived at the scene to take control of the situation, to arrest them under National Security Act (NSA).
