Imphal, January 30: Charges levelled against one Shamjetshabam Ranjit (31)/ s/o Chaoba Singh who was arrested by 10 Dogra Regiment on Jan 28 and handed over to Jiribam Police have been refuted as baseless.

In a joint statement, secretary of Pioneer Club, Lamdeng L Ashokumar, secy of Lamdeng Makha Leikai Women's Development Assn Kh Binasakhi and councillor of Lamsang Nagar Panchayat ward no.5 Kh Aka Devi asserted that Ranjit is an innocent person who earns his livelihood as a rickshaw driver.

On January 23, he had gone to Jiribam to visit in his inlaws taking along with him 40 kgs of rice and one kg of Ngari.
