MOBC office locked : To protest alleged denial of scholarship to students belonging to OBC, activists of Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) locked the office of the Directorate of Minorities and Other Backward Classes located at Governor Road today.
The student activists led by MUSU president Kh Ashok Kumar came and locked up the office at around 1.30 pm today.
Talking to mediapersons after locking up the main gate of the office, Ashok Kumar said the office of the MOBC has been sealed in the interest of the student community as the scholarship entitled to OBC students are not given in time and the officials concerned are not sincere in carry out their duties.
Students belonging to OBC who are pursuing studies in 15 Government colleges including MU are facing lot of difficulties as their scholarships for the period 2004-05 have not been paid even after more than one and half year of having submitted the forms.
There are even some students who have passed their MA degree without ever getting their scholarships, he pointed.
Over and over this, scholarship amount have also been denied to those selected students for the period 2003-04 whose names were duly notified and pasted on the notice board of the Directorate till date, the student leader complained.
When the student activists came to meet the MOBC Director to discuss the matter today, there were no officials at the office apart from a peon and a chowkidar, Ashok Kumar informed.
