State Director General of Police AK Parashar has pledged that the State police force would relentlessly continue to work for restoring peace and communal harmony in Manipur.
Briefing mediapersons on the sideline of displaying arms and ammunition seized by Bishnupur District police during CI operations launched since November last year, the police officer claimed that district police commandos arrested four activists of RPF/PLA, two of UNLF, three of PREPAK and three other cadres of KYKL besides killing four members of PLA and one PREPAK cadre during the same period.
The police commandos also seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
These include two AK-47 Rifles, two AK-56 Rifles, one SLR, one Lethod gun, one 9 mm pistol, five magazine of AK series Rifles, 38 live rounds of ammunition, one magazine of 9 mm pistol along with seven live rounds of ammunition, the DGP informed the media.
While heaping praises on the SP of Bishnupur District Police and Additional SP for their work, the DGP also rewarded the OC of Commandos S Ibochou who was directly involved in all the operation conducted by presenting a sum of Rs 2 lakhs.
The DGP admitted that killing of IGP Thangthuam about one month back was a setback to State police force.
He described the slain IGP as an officer who was truly professional and a friend of both the hill and valley people.
The achievement of the Bishnupur district police which was on display at the complex of Bishnupur Police Headquarters today was a tribute to Thangthuam, he said.
All those who were present at the occasion also observed a two minute silence as a mark of respect to the soul of the departed police officer.
Not forgetting to mention the sacrifice made by escort commander of Thangthuam Khamkhanjan Paite, the DGP assured that the compensation already announced by the State Government would be given to the two bereaved families very soon.
IGP Law and Order-II A Romenkumar who was also present at the occasion congratulated the District Police personnel on their achievements and said that police personnel should not violate the rights of the innocent people while carrying out their duties.
