Imphal, January 30: Expressing surprise over the charges of assault by his men and the FIR registered against him by Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul Mohanlal Meena, Chingai A/C MLA A Aza has stated that he would give fitting reply in the law Court.

Addressing a press conference at his official residence here today, Aza asserted that it was DC Meena who laid hands on him first and his men had only tried to stop the DC from doing so.

Recounting the incident, Aza said he had gone to participate in the Luita Phanit of the Tangkhuls held at Kalhang and Nungpi Khullen of Ukhrul district as chief guest on Friday last .

As DC Meena was also scheduled to attend the said festival as guest of honour, he telephoned Meena to confirm his participation in which the latter replied in the affirmative, though Meena did not turn up.

On the following day, when the MLA returned to his quarters at Wino Bazar, his workers complained that the DC has not assigned works to the agencies recommended by the MLA for Border Area Development programme (BADP).

Subsequently, when the MLA went to DC office it was found out that a cheque in connection with the said programme with implementation of BADP had been issued in the name of one of the agencies not recommended by him.

Later, the MLA went to meet the DC at his quarters in this regard, but the officer told the MLA in an insulting tone that he (MLA) has got nothing to do with the implementation of the BADP scheme, only the DC has to ensure its implementation.

Taken aback at the attitude of the DC, the MLA asked what he meant by it.

But the officer grabbed the shirt collar of the MLA shaking violently.

To save the MLA, his workers rushed in resulting in the fracas.

Later, a compromise reached and everything settled, Aza said.
