The mortal remains of Rifleman Nabakumar of the 35 Assam Rifles who was killed in an encounter with the proscribed UNLF at Longpi on January 3 was laid to rest at his native place at Thounaojam in Kakching with full military honours.
Amid a large number of mourners, the father of the slain soldier, Th Nongthang Singh, Major General BS Ghotra (IG AR South) and the local MLA paid floral tributes to the mortal remains of the late soldier.
Paying tributes to Nabakumar, Maj Gen Ghotra said, �Rifleman Nabakumar was the bravest of the braves in his unit, 35 AR.
Because of his fitness and professional competence, he always believed in leading from the front.
I salute the brave family and the entire village where such a gallant soldier was born�.
The mortal remains of the late soldier was consigned to the flames with the �Last Post� echoing in the air, said the PRO of Assam Rifles in a statement and added that the bereaved family was assured of all possible assistance by Assam Rifles.
