Imphal, January 05:
Having faced severe inconveniences due to bad conditions of Imphal-Saikul roads for a prolonged period local residents poured out in substantial strength to assist road development works which started today.
Residents of Khurju, Haraorou, Yumnam Khunou and other nearby villages poured out in hundreds to level the road stretch of Khundrakpam Awang Leikai till Yumnam Khunou wherein stone boulders/chips were laid.
The road repairing materials were ferried from Leikinthabi in 25 trucks, said Khundrakpam kendra MLA L Lala Singh where some reporters sought comments regarding public complaint on the unimaginable condition of the inter-district road.
When public allegation of the eight kilometre road section being assigned to contractors concerned in 2002 was conveyed to the MLA, Lala informed that the said work was allotted to one L Gunamani of Nongren.
Gunamani, who was supposed to execute the works under provisions of Central Road Fund and Additional Central Assistance, parted the allotment with another contractor whom the MLA named as Noren.
Claiming that Norens portion of the divided work had been completed, Lala clarified that the road stretch laying in an abysmal condition at the current juncture is the responsibility of Gunamani.
The MLA, however, hastened to add that another contractor identified as Amu had extracted work order for some section of the un-repaired road.
