Imphal, February 14:
Host Tiddim Road Athletic Union (Trau) went down to Eastern Sporting union (Esu), Wangkhei by a solitary goal in a league round match of the 3rd Sarajeevan Tiddim Trophy Football Tournament at Khuman lampak Main Stadium today.
Esu converted territorial advantage into goal in the 54th minute when A Saratchandra found the mark unleashing a power-packed drive from close range with N Thoi under the TRAU bar helplessly watching the ball crash into the net.
A corner kick taken by Y Dwijamani was deflected from the Trau goal area to the same player who shrugged off a rival defender to tap it on Saratchandra's path which the latter obliged by driving home past the goalkeeper.
however, the scoreline could have been different had the agile Thoi not affected atleast three brilliant saves in the first half.
On the other hand, the hosts could have equalised eight minutes after conceding the only goal of the keenly contested match but ESU custodian N Imojit rose to the occasion to parry a T Shyamo header off an L Bisheshore floater from the corner.
The other teams to have won their first outings in the six team competition are SSU and NEROCA with YWC and NACO joining the host as teams yet to collect a point in the prestigious tournament.
