Imphal, February 14: Additional Director of School Education, Ch Jayanta who was in charge of the Department as Director was placed under suspension as Rs 2.5 crores was not accounted for and has gone missing.

An official source informed The Sangai Express that the official was suspended after matter came to light that out of the Rs 7.5 crore released by the Centre for taking up developmental schemes such as constructing school buildings, Rs 2.5 crores was found missing and not deposited at the bank.

After the matter came to the knowledge of the Chief Minister, the Commissioner of School Education informed Ch Jayanta five times to retrieve the said amount and deposit the same at the bank, said the source.

However there was no response from the side of the Director, said the source and added that following the non-cooperation from the side of Ch Jayanta he was placed under suspension.

The missing Rs 2.5 crore is meant for school buildings, buying computer sets for schools and procuring books.
