Imphal, February 14:
The Threatened Indigenous People's Society has appealed to all the NGOs, civil society, organisations, student bodies and revolutionary organisations to help it form a fact finding Inquiry Committee to find out the truth behind the murderous assault on Ratan Luwangcha, general secretary of AMWJU.
In a statement, TIPS said that it is constrained to take a major role to deliver justice as Ratan is not only the general secretary of AMWJU and Bureau Chief of Poknapham but also a founder member of TIPS who contributed his best in forming the Society.
The charges levelled by the KCP on Ratan and the clarification given by the injured scribe need to be probed thoroughly so that no one will come under the impression that they can do anything as they wish, said TIPS.
Meanwhile condemning the life attempt on AMWJU general secretary and bureau chief of Poknapham Ratan Luwangcha and the subsequent charges heaped on him by KCP, 11 different organisations staged a Wakat Meepham at Keishampat Junction from 10.30 am to 3 pm today.
The 11 organisations are UPF, AMSU, MAFYF, Mapi Council, NIPCO, UPACO, All Manipur Rickshaw Pullers and Drivers' Welfare Association, Meitei Society CCpur, Dingpi Area Development Peace Committee, Senapati District Meitei Society and Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation (TDUWDO).
After the Wakat Meepham, a press conference was held at the office of UPF at Keishampat.
Addressing the conference, UPF president Y Devdutta strongly condemned the trend of levelling charges only after a person has been killed.
Devdutta opined that the case of Ratan Luwangcha should be investigated into by an independent body to find out the truth.
TDUWDO president Thasana said that murderous assault on Ratan without giving any warning is condemnable.
If the armed outfits are fighting for the cause of the people, then they should not work against the interest of the people, she said.
Meitei Society, CCpur president Yaipha Yumnam , Dingpi Area Development Peace Committee chairman Ngamttuiyam Guite, UPACO president Premjit, Mapi Council general secretary Bimol, AMSU general secretary (organisation) S Manoranjan, NIPCO secretary Sunil Karam and MAFYF secretary (organisation) Biky Yambem were also among those who spoke condemning the assault on mediaperson.
Earlier Devdutta on behalf of all the 11 organisations, donated a sum of Rs 2500 toward meeting the cost of medical treatment of Ratan who is recuperating at Shija Hospital, Langol.
