Imphal, February 14: Denouncing the trend of heaping blames after killing a person by the State forces as well as by the underground activists in Manipur, five influential women bodies would be staging a Wakat Meepham at Keishampat Junction here tomorrow.

Announcing this at a press conference jointly convened by Apunba Manipur Kanba Nupi Lup, Nupi Samaj, Tammi-Chi-ngmi Apunba Nupi Lup and THANIL at Press Club today, general secretary of Nupi Samaj Kh Ramani said over the last few years, the people are witnessed a disturbing trend of heaping charges after having killed a person by the security forces and the underground activists.

The Wakat Meepham is being organised by the Imas tomorrow to protest this disturbing trend, Ramani said, adding that if at all a person has been found guilty, he/she should be given a chance to amend his/her ways.

It is very cruel to kill an alleged guilty person first and then spinning out the alleged crimes committed by him, she said, while making a fervent appeal to both the security forces and the underground activists to stop such merciless killing at once.

In such merciless killing, it is the surviving family members who suffered the most and if this unhealthy trend continues then it would have serious impact on the future of the society, she pointed out.

AMKIL general secretary Y Mema who was also present during the press conference informed that publicity secretary of the Lup Loitam Ibetombi has been suspended for life from the organisation for having threatened the Project Officer of Agriculture Department RK Noyonsana and his family on January 18 last in the name of Col Yaima of UNLF.

The decision to rusticate Ibetombi was taken during a meeting of the Lup held on February 12, the woman activist said.

During the course of the investigation, she further disclosed, it has also come to light that Ibetombi misused the name of the outfit for her personal gain and bought cloths from a shop at Keishampat without paying money in 2004 and involved in issuance of bills for contractors.
