Imphal, February 14:
Personnel of 22 Maratha Light Infantry posted at Patsoi seized 40 tons of timber being illegally transported from Uripok to senapati in four trucks.
The trucks MN01/5583, MN01/5414, MN01/6019 and AS-25/B-2568 were intercepted while the troopers were carrying out frisking and random check of vehicles at Salam village at around 5.30 am today, said a PRO Assam Rifles statement.
The vehicles along with 11 occupants including four drivers have been handed over to District Forest Officer, Koirengei, added the statement while recalling that MLI personnel had seized 115 tons of timber being smuggled out of the State during the last nine months.
