Imphal, February 14:
Announcing that the KYKL will start investigating the case of the murderous assault on AMWJU general secretary Ratan Luwangcha by the KCP, the outfit today asked the KCP to produce a white paper on the charges levelled against the scribe within one week.
In a statement, KYKL said that the KCP should be able to produce the white paper within one week as it has already levelled the charges against Ratan.
KYKL also asked the KCP to name the gang members who are supposed to have been helped and supported by his family members.
Such unmasking of the gang members will prove positive to the people as a whole.
On the contention of the KCP that it had made it clear that anyone found issuing demand note would be punished without any warning during a press conference, KYKL said the statement was not very clear as it did not mention whether the message was given specifically to Ratan or was announced at the press conference for all to report and asked the KCP to clarify.
Stating that it is hard to make a prima facie case out of the charges levelled against Ratan, KYKL said that a simple round of information gathering has shown that there is no construction work going on at his residence, the motor cycle he was using was bought from a loan given by the publisher of Poknapham and is to be paid in instalment, said KYKL and added that even the Gypsy that Ratan is using was bought in a CRPF auction by his younger brother.
The Gypsy was bought to be sold later after repairing at a profit, said the outfit and added that Ratan's mother is presently eking out an earning by selling tea at a road side stall.
Manipur is a small place and everyone knows who is who, said KYKL and added that since the people of Manipur are a suspicious lot, eye brows would have been raised against him a long time back, if there was anything fishy about his income.
The statement further said that KYKL cannot believe the claim of the KCP that it had warned Ratan many times earlier and cited its own experience.
AMWJU and Editors' Forum Manipur have already evinced an interest that an independent body probe the matter, said KYKL and urged all including the KCP to extend their cooperation.
Just as a sovereign country has its own constitution and rule of law, the armed organisations which are fighting for sovereignty too ought to have its own set of rules, or rule of the game, said KYKL.
It is this rules which should be respected and abided at all times, said the outfit and added that fairness should be the back bone of all such rules.
Human rights, which is upheld by all sovereign countries should also be upheld by a Nation which is in the making, said KYKL and added that this is the very reason why the PLA/RPF drew praise when it signed the Geneva Convention and the NSCN (IM) when it signed the Anti-Personnel Mine.
The statement further said that there are rumours doing the round that the KCP had threatened the family members of Ratan but added that since this could also be the ploy of the common enemy, KYKL had inquired from the family members.
However the family members did not say anything, said the statement.
On a firm tone, KYKL said that the KCP should not target any family members of Ratan, journalists and members of social organisations who have been protesting the assault.
