Top shuttlers from Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Assam, Sikkim, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh besides host Manipur would be competing for top honours in team and singles events in four categories of the North East Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship which began at DMC campus Indoor Stadium today.
The inaugural programme of the four day championship was held with Manitron Chairman Bijoy Koijam (MLA) and Youth Affairs and Sports Commissioner Ch Birendra as the chief guest and president respectively.
RK Robinsana of the host state took the oath while Bijoy Koijam and guest of honour Vivek Raj Wangkhem (MLA) exchanged a few shots to formally declare the competition open.
In all 119 shuttlers and 17 officials are participating in the championship organised by Manipur Badminton Association under the auspices of Badminton Association of India.
Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland States top the championship with 21 players and officials each compared to only nine representing Arunachal Pradesh.
Competitions would be held in the category of senior men (Rahimtoola Cup), senior women (Chadha Cup), junior boys (Narang Cup) and junior girls (Shafi Qureshi).
