Imphal, September 27:
Demanding justice for the alleged rape and murder of Salam Punam on September 16 at Nongmaikhong, the JAC Against the Killing of S Punam and JAC Sekmaijin to Khordak Ichil today adopted a number of resolutions to pile up the pressure to produce the killer and award him befitting punishment.
A large public meeting organised by the two JACs was held today at the Laphupat Tera High School ground and it was resolved that the killer should be produced and handed over to the public by October 4 or else the JACs will be constrained to intensify the agitation all over the State.
On the other hand, the Joint Inquiry Committee of the UNLF and PREPAK has assured that the truth of the matter will be made known by October 16 and appealed to all to extend their co-operation.
Taking a tough stance, the meeting decided that if the killer is not produced within the stipulated time then the people will stop the entry of all militant groups from Ithai to Sekmaijin and drive them out from either side of the river banks along the said places.
If any one is found offering shelter to any militant cadres in violation of the resolution then the people of the area will expel the family concerned from the locality.
The two JACs also resolved to appeal to the State level organisations and student bodies to extend their co-operation as well as the media to publish the truth of the story so that justice is delivered.
Prior to the public meeting a protest rally was taken out by the people of Nongmaikhong area.
Pulling no punches the rallyists carried loud speakers and raised slogans like, Punish Henry of PREPAK, What were the crimes of Punam? Protect the chastity of women, Hand over all the guilty in the killing of Punam.
Placards with the slogans were also carried by the rallyists.
The enraged people also set aflame an effigy with the words written, I am PREPAK, I am Henry, I am a killer.
Even as the effigy was being burnt the people raised slogans demanding the punishment of Henry of PREPAK.
A large number of people also came out on the streets at Kakching Khunou to protest the killing of Punam today.
