Imphal, September 27:
Zomi Re-Unification Organisation (ZRO) has come down heavily on the alleged double-standard of the State Government in rejecting the peace truce pact it had signed with the Government of India.
ZRO, Hqs which has been striving for the unification of the Zo people in South Asia, entered into an agreement with the Government of India for suspension of operations on August 1, 2005.But what is shocking is that the Government of Manipur has overturned the efforts of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for bringing about a peaceful solution to the legitimate demands of the Zomi, joint secretary of the Information and Propaganda of the outfit said in a statement today.
This rejection of the truce exposes the double standards of the State Government whose Chief Ministers, time and again, offered unilateral cease-fire to the armed groups operating in the State, the statement said.
The volte face and duplicity are not unexpected because their action once again confirms the State Governments policy of appeasement of only the valley-based armed groups, while continuing to neglect tribal interest, even to the extent of facilitating communal clash among the various tribes, the statement charged.
It further said that the attitude of the Government has confirmed that the tribals of Manipur do not come within the interest of the Govt and sends a clear message that the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, or Hill areas of Manipur, is not considered to be part of the State.
