In an apparent bid to spruce up district administrations, the State Government is all set to construct new offices and expand the official living quarters of all the Deputy Commissioners.
Under the Additional Central Assistance, Rs 35 crores have been sanctioned for the construction work which is set to be taken up within a short period, a well placed source in the State PWD informed The Sangai Express.
Of the total amount sanctioned, Thoubal district will receive the lion's share with Rs 16.65 crores followed by Imphal East with Rs 7.7 crores and Imphal West with Rs 2 crores, the source added.
For the remaining districts, Churachandpur's share is Rs 1.85 crore Chandel and Senapati Rs 1.65 crores each, Ukhrul Rs 1 crore, Bishnupur Rs 1.4 crores and Tamenglong Rs 1.1 crores.
The amount has been sanctioned under the re-construction programme, the source said that added that the construction works were supposed to start early this year but had to be halted following some technical hitches.
The Centre has strictly instructed that 67 pc of the whole work should be completed by December this year, said the source and added that to meet the deadline, the works will start soon.
Other than the offices and quarters of DCs the programme also covers construction of new office buildings of SDOs and SDCs at different sub-divisions.
At Thoubal a new DC officer and a Mini Secretariat will come up, said the source.
