The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has asked an insurance company to pay Rs 8,96,666 as compensation to the family of one Ch Romen Singh of Thoubal district who died in a road accident near Marem village on the Ukhrul-Jessami road in Ukhrul district.
The Tribunal ruled that the amount includes an interim compensation of Rs 50,000 at the rate of 6 percent interest from the date of filing the case on October 4 last year till the payment of the same.
The amount is to be paid to the family members within one month from the date of the order being issued, ruled presiding officer Ph Surendra in an order issued on September 24.Romen along with many other passengers were travelling in a bus on August 23 last year from Imphal to Jessami when the bus fell into a road side ditch near Marem village killing 15 persons and injuring 40 others, said case dossiers.
Post mortem was performed the next day at the Ukhrul district hospital and the bodies were handed over to the family members the next day.
Case dossiers said that the victim was an employee of the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau under the union Home Ministry.
