Strongly denouncing the gunning down of a youth by unidentified armed persons at a spot in between Tekcham and Chingthem on the banks of Khongjam river last night, meira paibis staged a roadblock at Wanjing Bazar today.
The victim has been identified as one Moirangthem Birbabu (24) s/o Tiken of Tentha Bazar.
He was a divorcee and a tailor by profession.
According to reports, Birbabu was abducted by unidentified gunmen while watching a drama at Tekcham HS ground last night at around 9.30.The gunmen also fired several rounds in the air while abducting Birbabu and warned Birbabu's friends who pleaded for his release to stay back as Birbabu would be released after a short talk.
Birbabu's body was founding by the locals this morning.
He received bullet wounds on the head and on the left side of the chest.
Post mortem of the victim's body was conducted at Lilong PHC today.
However, the body has been shifted to RIMS morgue after the family members refused to take back the body.
In connection with the killing, meira paibis and members of local organisations of the area formed a JAC today and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding for arresting the killing, to conduct a judicial inquiry and payment of Rs 5 lakhs as ex gratia to the bereaved family members before the shradha ceremony.
Reports also said the ongoing road blockade at Wangjing Bazar is likely to continue till an agreement is reached between the JAC members and the Govt.The JAC formed against the killing of the civilian met the Chief Minister late this evening and it was agreed that the Govt would pay the required ex-gratia before the religious rites of the deceased.
