EC's blow to MSCP on party's symbol

Imphal, February 04: Delivering a major blow on the MSCP, the Election Commission of India has sent a written intimation to the president of the party reminding him that the MSCP is only a "registered unrecognised party and has no symbol allotted to it as its reserved symbol".

Announcing this to the media at his Babupara residence today, a jubilant Th Chaoba, who is the State BJP unit president said that the EC's intimation came after the, BJP highlighted the statement of M Hemanta wherein he said that the MSCP is still functioning under its symbol, which is 'Cultivator Cutting Crop'.

Hemanta made the statement on the 8th foundation day of the MSCP on Dec 5.Invoking Paragraph 10A of the Election Symbols, (Reservation and allotment) Order, 1968, the EC reasoned that the.

provisions of the said paragraph "only provides for concession that may be granted by the Commission to contest an election on the symbol at any election, on case to case basis".

Reiterating that the MSCP can no longer lay claim on the symbol, Chaoba said that even if recognition is granted to the MSCP, it cannot claim Ownership of the symbol.
