The Inquiry Commission headed by Retired Judge C Upendra has teen apprised of the agreement reached between the Assam Rifles and victim party of the November 16, 2004 firing incident that took place at Bungte Chiru village in Bishnupur district.
Mention may be made that personnel of 28 Assam Rifles allegedly gunned down a retired teacher - LD Rengtuiwan - while his wife Thangmuchim Chiru sustained bullet injuries.
Three villagers - Warchung, Bungchoichon and Th William - were also reportedly bashed up by the security men.
Appearing before the panel today, 43 year old LID Rongsonlen Chiru, son of the victim teacher, recalled that the AR Commandant accompanied by some personnel tendered an apology to the family a few days after the incident.
With the paramilitary force authorities also seeking apology for thrashing the three villagers at the same juncture a reconciliatory and apology acceptance ceremony under Chiru customary law was arranged wherein the AR officials had presented a pig, Chiru shawl and an indigenous sword, detailed the son.
Thangmuchim and the village chief Rihongkha Thanglam also deposed before the panel while three thrashed villagers had already been examined by the probe panel.
Mention may also be made that during appearance of a Bishnupur police station officer before the Commission yesterday, the police had charged of lack of cooperation by the Assam Rifles on the case matter.
