Imphal, March 18 2010:
State health and Family Welfare Minister, Ph Parijat today said that his department is making efforts to open a separate directorate of AYUSH and also set up district hospitals in Imphal West and East districts during the next financial year 2010-11 beginning from April 1 next.
Speaking at the one-day District Level Orientation Programme on Homeopathy for Mother and Child held at Panchayat Bhavan, Porompat, Minister Parijat talked about the side effects-free treatment using homeopathic medicines.
The programme was organised by the state Directorate of Health Services (AYUSH Section) under the sponsorship of the Department of AYUSH, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Treatment with homeopathic medicines cause no side effects like that of allopathic treatment.
Homeopathic medicines are also available at low cost apart from giving benefits to health, the Minister said adding that efforts are on to make the facilities of AYUSH available to the people.
In order to expand the homeopathic method of treatment of medicines, one AYUSH doctor has been posted at each of 80 primary health centres, 16 community health centres and seven district hospitals, Minister Parijat said.
He further informed that processes are on to deploy AYUSH doctors at the remaining healthcare centres.
All districts, except Imphal East and West district, have one district hospital each.
The two districts have no hospitals because of the location of RIMS Hospital and JN Hospital.
The need for setting up the two district hospitals arose when the RIMS Hospital has been turned into a Central hospital of which management is under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the JN Hospital is being transferred to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).
Works for setting up the two hospitals will start from April next, he said.
