Moreh, March 18 2010:
Attempt by prominent civil society organisations based in the border town to bring about an amicable solution to the dispute over parking slots of Tata sumos and Auto-rickshaws culminated with a formal agreement to thrash out differences on March 21 .
following clashes between operators/owners of Tata Sumos and Autorickshaws over the parking slot dispute yesterday, functionaries of HTC, MCM, ACODOM, MMCM along with all community leaders and members of Tata Sumo/Autorickshaw bodies held a joint meeting at the premises of Moreh police station this morning.
As the issue became contentious the transport operators were advised to chalk out an honourable solution among themselves within March 24 to which members of the Autorickshaw body staged a walk-out.
later, when mediapersons sought reasons for leaving the meeting before a decisive solution could be worked out, the autorickshaw operators accused the all community leaders of undermining an agreement reached on the same issue on February 3 .
They explained that walking out from the meeting should not be construed as disrespectful to the initiatives for solving the dispute but such a step was compelled by lack of commitment by the all community leaders to uphold/honour agreement reached at an earlier occasion.
Nevertheless, both parties agreed to meet again on March 21 with a cautionary note that all concerned should be present failing which future complaint, if any, would not be entertained.
On the otherhand, members of All Moreh Auto Owners' and Drivers' Welfare Association surrendered over 100 of their vehicles inside the police station compound as a symbolic form of protest.
