A party conference hosted by Tamei Block Congress Committee yesterday to commemorate 125th foundation anniversary of the Congress has kick-started campaign of the political organisation for the forthcoming district council elections.
The day-long conference was attended by manipur Pradesh Congress Committee's general secretary Victor Keishing, former Minister Z Mangaibou, a former candidate in Tamei AC Athon Abonmai, members of the Block Congress Committee and Congress party aspirants for the Council elections.
In his address, Athon Abonmai said in connection with the District council election campaigning of which had already commenced a certain candidate is trying to hoodwink the Tamenglong district headquarters electorates with the promise of providing housing loan with the same rendition echoing wherever poll campaigns are held.
Declaring that the Congress party is responsible for introducing and implementing every developmental programmes inspite of the same candidate campaigning otherwise, Abonmai construed that the very candidate's style of campaigning reflects the concept that voters are vulnerable and could be taken for a ride through false promises.
Contending that substantial amount had been released by the Government as relief measures to mitigate suffering of people settled in the interior parts of Tamenglong due to bamboo flowering event, Abonmai maintained that among the unscrupulous elements responsible for depriving financial assistance to the needy, involvement of some public leaders could be established, against whom the Central Vigilance Commission would be urged to investigate.
The social activist also questioned motive of Tamenglong district's Deputy commissioner and Tamei SDO for failure to comply with an order issued on November 30 for distribution of building materials under the IAY Housing Scheme within 60 days of the order's issuance.
While threatening that necessary legal action would be initiated to ensure justice to the people, he also affirmed that Congress party would continue to strive for establishing an egalitarian society by exposing and pulling up the guilty ones.
speaking at the occasion, Z Mangaibou highlighted developmental programmes being taken up or had already been implemented in Tamenglong district as well as in Tamei sub-division since establishment of the SPF Government in the State.
He, however, claimed that certain amount of development funds are being misused particularly in the withdrawal of NREGS funds without actual execution of the assigned task.
Decrying misuse of development fund, Mangaibou described the present generation of Liangmai people as the most corrupt tribe besides alleging that MLA elected with the backing of UGs could no longer control the UG group.
Owing to certain dispute, construction of the bailey bridge over the Barak river could not begin inspite of the work having been approved back in 2005, the former Minister said.
Addressing the gathering MPCC general secretary Victor Keishing pledged Congress party's commitment in taking the lead to pave the way for overall progress of the society inspite of hurdles posed from various angles.
Presenting a brief history of the Congress party as one of the oldest political parties of the country, he asserted Congress was formed with the objective of countering misrule of the british and as such the tradition of unmasking inimical elements would be sustained at any cost.
