A meeting of the State Cabinet today has approved recommendation for appointing Gopal Sharma who was the former DGP of Jammu & Kashmir and DG of SSB as the Security Advisor to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
The appointment of a Security Advisor to the Chief Minister to advice the latter on security steps has been initiated by the State Government at the instruction of the Union Home Ministry.
The meeting of the State Cabinet chaired by the Chief Minister this evening also approved terms and conditions of appointing the Security Advisor.
For the post of the Security Advisor to the CM, the Union Home Ministry had also suggested names of former DG of BSF EN Ram Mohan, Special Secretary to Internal Security Kumuwat, former Secretary (Security) NC Padi and former DG of CRPF VK Joshi.
Today's meeting also approved signing of a memorandum between the Centre and the State in connection with commencement of the session to the National Institute of Technology in Manipur from July this year.
The Commissioner of Higher Education has also been authorised to sign the memorandum on behalf of the State Government.
