Parbung (CCpur), March 18 2010:
It may sound quite strange but villagers of Parbung still have to shell out a handsome Rs 1000 per head to reach Churachandpur district headquarters.
Plagued with a deplorable road condition, one has to brave a 15-hour bone shaking ride by bus or DI Tata to reach the district headquarters.
Located along National Highway-150, Parbung village, which is 224 km away from Churachandpur district headquaretrs, still needs an 'extra' attention from the State Government in all spheres as an executive of the Parbung Village Authority on the condition of anonymity said, "The SDO of Parbung sub-division never comes to the village and sits at Churachandpur district headquarters, and poor villagers have to spend a huge amount in case they need his signature" .
As the head of the sub-division is not present in his office, most of the benefits of various Government schemes are not reached to poor villagers, he added.
The executive said that PDS items are distributed to the villagers basing on the number of villagers recorded 20 years back which is far different from the actual population of the village.
Urging the SDO to be present at his sub-divisional headquarters office and look into various irregularities in Government schemes, he expressed hope that other Government officials would definitely follow suit if the SDO does so.
And it is not the only problem that the poor locals of this sleepy village face at a time when the SPF Government is quite vocal about its advanced innovations being taken up different parts of the State.
Even though there is no power supply in the village, Government servants of the village have to clear electricity bills to acquire 'no due certificate' for withdrawal of salary.
There is a Government health centre in the village, a villager said, the concerned doctor was present at the centre for only three times in the past one year.
He further said, "No teacher come to the lone high school on the excuse that there is no student in the village." As there is no teacher in the school no child come forward to attend school, he added.
In the neighbouring Phaijol village, an SDC office was inaugurated by the Chief Minister few years back, no Government official has ever present in the office, said Thangmawilhang, vice chairman of Phaijol Village Authority.
He further said that many Government officials have visited the village on many occasions bringing lots of promises, but never returns after they left the village.
Saying that law and order has considerably improved after security forces flushed out underground cadres from the areas a few years back, Thangmawilhang urged all the Govt officials to be present in their respective offices and work to uplift the poor villagers.
