A civil body in Ukhrul district of Manipur specially to look into the education system in the district has decided to hold up salary for those teachers of government schools across the district who are irregular in their attendants.
This will be applicable to both contract and regular teachers in the government run schools resolved a meeting of the Village Education Committee of Ukhrul district held yesterday.
The meeting, held in the office the VEC, strongly condemned the government and concern responsible department with regards to shortage of teaching staff in most of the schools in Ukhrul district, non availability of books on time is another factor leads to incomplete syllabus.
"Unwanted proxy teachers prevailing in different schools in Ukhrul district is another lack of quality education apart from problems facing due to lack of basic infrastructures (drinking water, toilet etc) facing everyday in the schools they said.
VEC members from various villages mentioned that in some school there are only one/two teaching staff to run the schools which they observed will impossible to give quality education to the children.
Inspite of repeated reminder to government authorities and concern department, they turned deaf ear to relief the problems facing in the schools pressing the officials of the Zonal Education Office of the district who also took part in the meeting.
VEC fervently appeal to government and concern department to look into this matter at the earliest, according to VEC representatives while exploring that no School Inspector particularly from Autonomous District Council visiting schools for last couple of years in some interior areas.
This is the clear signal of less concern for schools, they also strongly condemned observing political interference in education as bad then they will no longer be a mere spectacular but will carry out to what is good for common people in the areas and district in general.
After a long deliberation on the issue Village Education Committee (VEC) unanimously agreed to hold up salary for those who are very irregular for both contract and regular teachers in the school.
