AIM, Khabam became the sixth team to reach the quarter finals from the qualifying round stage of the 52nd CC Meet football tournament with a solitary goal win in a Group H tie against DM Rao, Sekmai at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
The all important goal for the Khabam side was scored by L Jiban in the 27th minute who capitalised on a fumble by the rival custodian to slam home.
AIM had defeated TRAU earlier in the competition to top the group.
Two more teams would qualify to the quarter finals where they would be joined by four others including the defending champion NISA of thangmeiband and three outstation teams.
Later today in a Group A match, Kshetrigao side ABA laboured to a hard fought 2-1 victory over ESU, Wangkhei when Heikhohao Vaiphei made amends for his failure in converting a sixth minute penalty award with a 17th minute goal and S Kishan doubled the lead in the 34th.Even though ESU managed to pull back one in the 66th minute with S Heman successfully converting a spot kick ABA defended their fort to cull maximum points from the match played for academic interest YWC, Thambalkhong had already booked their place in the quarter finals from the group with an unblemished record in the three team group.
At 12.05 pm tomorrow, KYU will play against AMOFA, while at 1.45 pm it will be SSU versus ASSA.
