Cong to field late MLA's son ; MPP to put former minister's son

Imphal, December 06 2008:
THE ELDEST son of Mairenbam Manindra, the late MLA of Moirang assembly constituency, M Prithiviraj would be contesting in the by-election of the constituency scheduled to be held on December 27 on Congress ticket.
On the other hand, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) has also selected the eldest son of ex-minister Hemam Nilamani, H Bira to be fielded as the party's candidate in the by-election.
The election committee of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) had held a meeting on the 2nd of this month and unanimously recommended the name of M Prithiviraj to be the party's official candidate in the coming by-election.
MPCC President Gaikhangam had gone to Delhi to deliver the recommendation to the high command of the Congress party.
After getting consent of the pary's leaders to field Prithiviraj as the Congress candidate in the by-election, Gaikhangam returned to Imphal today.
The MPCC held a meeting tonight to chalk out programmes of election campaign, reliable sources said.
The MPCC has decided not to leave any stone unturned to see that the party's candidate retains the seat left vacant by his father, it is learnt.
On the other hand, the MPP has also started chalking out various strategies to win the Moirang A/C seat.
As part of the strategies, the party's MLA and vice-president, RK Anand has been appointed spokes-person of the party.
This was announced by Party President Dr L Chandramani before newsmen today.
Besides, Dr Chandramani also announced the name of Hemam Bira, eldest son of former minister H Nilamani as the party's candidate in the by-election.
