Based on newspaper report with regard to a 40 year old man raping a minor girl in Pallel area yesterday, the Manipur State Commission for Women has recommended to the State Government for adequate financial assistance to the victim girl.
A Commission statement conveying of taking suo moto notice of the inhuman act against the eight year old girl, who shares the same locality as the perpetrator, recommended that the Government of Manipur compensate the victim girl and to ensure that she receives her right of free education till she attains 18 years of age.
after considering the matter at length, this Commission, for the present moment holds that the allegation if established, would be serious violation of women's modesty, the Commission stated and observed that the civilized norm of the society to give protection and honour the girl child has been seriously violated.
Further insisting that 'this Commission takes a very serious view of the matter as similar case brutality against the girl child had been placed before the panel', it also drew the attention of the Government to ensure that such cases are curbed and do not recur in the future.
Mention may be made that the alleged rapist passed away at RIMS Hospital where he was brought after being thrashed by the locals soon after the incident.
Nupi Khunai celebrates: The Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Moreh celebrated its sixth foundation anniversary at the Lup's Ward No 6 office in the border town today, reports our Moreh correspondent.
The celebration function attended by around 150 members of the women's body was graced by the presence of vice president of All Community Development Organisation (Moreh) N Yaiskul Meetei and the host's president N Tathotlei Devi as the chief guest and functional president respectively.
