Imphal, January 19:
Coming out strongly against the excesses of the security personnel, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup today said the killing of two innocent persons including a child by CRPF personnel yesterday at Wangoo Nungoi Sabal Nongyaikhong is an ample proof that India Government does not respect the dignity of the Manipuri people and is intent on keeping them suppressed.
In a hard hitting statement, the publicity committee of the Lup, jointly signed by Ch Premita, RK Bhumi and Jotin Salam said that the attitude of the Indian security forces toward the people of Manipur shows that they don't consider the Manipuri people as Indians, but as their enemies.
The underlining motive of the India Government to keep the people of Manipur always under its thumb has become all that more clear from the fact that its security personnel does not hesitate in killing even an unarmed 11-year old child, the statement lambasted.
The Indian security personnel are being deployed in Manipur not to safeguard the lives and properties of the people, but only to trample upon the rights of the people and muffle their voices, the Lup said, adding that it is a truth that is known to one and all.
The statement observed that it is insignificant now to ask whether Manipur is a colony of India or not and whether the Manipuris are enjoying their due rights and freedom.
Is denial of democratic rights of the people and leaving them at the mercy of security forces, the meaning of democracy?, the Lup asked.
How can the Manipuri people say that their are living in a free country when their rights are being deprived and they could be killed at any time, the statement further asked.
In such a situation, is there any need for reviewing of the Armed Forces Special Power Act which gives unrestrained power to the security personnel, the statement asked, adding that everyone should be convinced by now that reviewing of the Act could never be never a solution.
Instead of trying to divert the attention of the people from the ongoing movement for revocation of AFSPA, those who are in support of India Governments move to review the Act, should realise their mistakes and join hands with the rights denied people.
