Despite experiencing nightmares and disturbances from both outside and inside, Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) made some significant and worth mentioning spectacular achievements during the year just gone by, Media Advisor of the premier institute said in statement today.
Highlighting some of these �spectacular achievements�, the statement said that the telemedicine Centre which was commissioned in December is now functioning in full swing.
RIMS was identified as one of the four ART training centres in the country and doctors from Delhi and NE States are being trained here, the statement said.
A free ART treatment Centre was opened during the 2004 and it is one of the four centres sponsored by the National AIDS Control Organisation, the statement informed.
The model Voluntary Confidential and Counselling and Testing Centre in the Microbiology Department was adjusted as one of the best in the country under WHO and NACO, Govt of India, the statement said, adding that the National Reference Laboratory at the Microbiology Dept is one of the 12 such laboratories in the Country.
More than 50 research projects are being undertaken in the laboratory.
Touching a yet another landmark, the PMR Department was adjusted as one of the best centres in the country, and students and faculty members of the institute are also proud of the fact that RIMS has become a member of the UNESCO Bio-ethics world network.
A paediatric asthma clinic was also inaugurated during the year, the statement added.
During the 2004, more than 90 faculty staff of the Institute attended conference, seminars, workshops and continuing medical education outside the State.
While RIMS had organised 15 conferences, workshops, seminars and CME where many eminent professors from other States attended, the statement said, adding that some of the teachers of the Institute were also invited aboard as resource persons.
The statement further informed that 13 cases of die-in-harness pending since 1998 were given appointment during the year.
RIMS Students Union was formed and examinations were conducted in time.
Moreover, number of post graduate seats in the institute too had been increased during the year, the statement informed.
A significant number of faculty staff had received awards and honours outside the State, and the RIMS newsletter is being published regularly, the statement said.
HIV/AIDS training: A one-day training programme on HIV/AIDS for community leaders attended by 30 of them was held at the hall of Ningthoukhong Municipal Council yesterday.
