Imphal, January 19: A commando team of Imphal West district arrested a hard-core member of the UNLF from Lamphel super Market and recovered several demand notes, said an Imphal West SP statement.

Based upon reliable information of some under- ground cadres loitering at lamphel area to extort money from the Super Market shopkeepers, the commando team laid a trap resulting in the arrest of Ningombam Bipin alias Nilla alias Young (18) at around 3 pm, said the statement.

Bipin s/o Angouba is from Bashikhong Zone II and belong to the UNLF, further informed the statement while adding that a list of telephone numbers likely to be used in demanding money have been seized from the arrested youth.

The Imphal West commando also rounded up 33 suspects during frisking and search operations launched in the general area of PHED, Fisheries Department office and Tribal Development office located at Lamphel from around 3-3.30 pm.

However, all of them have been released after proper verification, added the statement.

In a separate statement issued by the Imphal East SP today, one PULF activist named as Md Atao Rahaman (18) s/o Md Tabali of keirao Makha Leikai was arrested by the district police personnel from Minuthong hatta area yesterday afternoon.
