Atsum asks Govt to keep promises

Imphal, January 19: Condemning the failure of the State Government to implement the assurances given to various tribal student bodies pertaining to educational matters in the hill district areas, All Tribal Students� Union, Manipur has demanded that State authorities implement its promises.

Even though an agreement was reached between the Manipur Government and representatives of Atsum, KSO and Ansam in December last year to provide sufficient teachers in hill district educational institutions there is no sign of any development, said an Atsum statement.

Charging the Govt of repeatedly making lame excuse for delay in implementing the agreement the student body observed lack of commitment and sincerity vividly illustrates indifferent attitude in solving problems besetting the hill people.

Taking serious note of lethargic pace in the teacher rationalisation exercises, the Union demanded completion of the process to fill up vacant post of teachers in the hill area schools before the new session starts.
