BJP Tamenglong District Committee has strongly condemned the shot out between personnel of 38 Assam Rifles and the cadres of NSCN (K) which left four persons of a family lost their lives in Tamenglong district in the wee hours of November 19.Issuing a statement in this connection, Committee president Phenri Remei demanded that a judicial inquiry be conducted into the tragic incident and also questioned the wisdom on the part of he army and State Government authorities in dealing with the situation involving cease-fire which is still in force.
Expressing shock over the loss of human lives, the Committee maintained that the tragedy could have been averted if there had been co-ordination and transparency between the State police and the Central paramilitary forces.
Chiefs plead for restraint: Following the recent development in Nungkam village of 42 A/C Tengnoupal, the Old Somtal Area Chiefs' & Development Committee has appealed to the security forces and insurgents to exercise maximum restraint so as not to inflict pain and loss to innocent civilians.
In a statement, the Committee requested not to use civilians as human shields by either side while engaged in gun battle.
