With a view to strengthen administration and meet the infrastructural needs in the hill district headquarters, State PWD has started preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for construction of offices and residential quarters, disclosed a reliable source.
According to the source, there are in 39 District officers and 1555 employees in the five hill districts namely Senapati, Tamenglong, Ukhrul, Churachandpur and Chandel, and required 293 rooms which could serve as offices for them.
Out of the total requirement, the construction work for at least 74 offices would begin within the current year with Additional Central Assistance fund from the Centre, the source said.
At present there are district headquarters in the hills which do not have the required infrastructures like offices and residential quarters.
The Government has taken up the steps to provide the necessary infrastructures with a view to bring about improvement in the administration, the source informed.
Efforts would be made to include the DPR being prepared by the PWD as Prime Minister�s Special Package so as to get additional Central fund from Planning Commission during 2005-06, the source said.
Not only for the hills, but also for developing the existing infrastructures in the district headquarters of the valley districts, a Rs 35 crore-budget provision has been made and it would be implemented from the current financial year.
For efficiency in Revenue administration, trainings would be provided to the employees of the Revenue Department for a period of three months from time to time, the source said, adding that arrangement are also being made for procuring the vehicles of the SDOs, the source informed.
First of all, 19 vehicles would be procured for the SDOs.
A amount of Rs 26 lakh from the Non-lapsable Plan amount of the Revenue Department has already been kept aside for buying 10 vehicles like Maruti Vans for using by the SDOs in the valley, the source said, adding that as for SDOs posted in the hills, 9 Bolero would be procured with the required amount from Rural Development Fund.
